Sir Roderick David Stewart…
better known as Rod Stewart, was born on January 10, 1945. He is a British rock and pop singer and songwriter renowned for his unique, raspy voice. Over the course of his career, he has become one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with over 120 million records sold globally.
Stewart’s musical journey began in 1962 when he started busking with a harmonica. He later joined the Dimensions in 1963 as a harmonica player and vocalist. By 1964, he had moved on to perform with Long John Baldry and the All Stars, and in 1967, he joined the Jeff Beck Group. In 1969, he became a member of the Faces, while also embarking on a solo career.
His debut solo album, An Old Raincoat Won’t Ever Let You Down, was released in 1969, and his musical style blended rock, folk, soul, and R&B. Rod Stewart’s breakthrough came with his third album, Every Picture Tells a Story (1971), which topped the charts in the UK, US, Canada, and Australia. The album’s iconic ballad, “Maggie May,” became a massive hit. His follow-up album, Never a Dull Moment (1972), also found chart success, reaching number one in the UK and Australia and placing in the top three in North America. “You Wear It Well,” a single from the album, became another chart-topping hit in the UK.
