The very first legal casino license in Las Vegas went to a woman — Mayme Stocker — in 1920 for her venue, the Northern Club. 
Mayme wasn’t your typical casino boss. She was a respectable wife and mother, often featured in the local newspaper’s society pages. 
While her husband Harold was hesitant to be involved, she fearlessly opened the casino in her own name — talk about bold! 
Her casino offered the only five games legal in Vegas at the time:

Mayme helped lay the foundation for the Vegas we know today — proving women were always part of the action.
